Why Use Files
A file is a metalworking and woodworking tool used to cut fine amounts of material from a work piece. It is a metal tool, usually long and narrow and with sharpened ridges on one or … | to smooth down or wear away the surface of something.
Files are used for cutting, smoothing off, or removing small amounts of metal, wood, plastic, or other material. Files are made in various lengths, shapes, and cuts.
Types of Files
Files come in a wide variety of materials, sizes, shapes, cuts, and tooth configurations. The cross-section of a file can be flat, round, half-round, triangular, square, knife edge or of a more specialized shape. The cut of the file refers to how fine its teeth are. They are defined as rough, middle, bastard, second cut, smooth, and dead smooth.
The Oxford Dictionary defines a file as, “a tool with a roughened surface or surfaces, typically of steel, used for smoothing or shaping a hard material”.
SDS Drill Bits
SDS drill bits are a type of shank. SDS shanks are helpful for hammer drilling. The shank is the part of a drill bit grasped by the chuck of a drill. The cutting edges of the drill bit are at one end, and the shank is at the other. The SDS drill bits have excellent hammer drilling performance and have a fast one-handed chucking operation. The “rotation stop” feature can use chiselling bits. It has a high torque transmission.
Sledge Hammer
A sledge hammer is a tool consisting of a large, flat head attached to a lever (or handle). The head is typically made of metal. The word sledge hammer is derived from the Anglo Saxon “Slaegan”, which, in its first sense, signifies “to strike violently”.
Use of Sledge Hammer
Sledge hammers are often used in destruction work, for breaking through drywall or masonry walls. Sledgehammers are also used when substantial force is necessary to dislodge a trapped object. Sledgehammer usually require two hands and a swinging motion involving the entire torso. The combination of a long swinging range, and heavy head, increase the force of the resulting impact.
Claw Hammer
A claw hammer is a tool primarily used for pounding nails into, or extracting nails from, some other object. A claw hammer can be said to look roughly like the letter “T” with the handle being the long part, and the head being the line across the top which looks like a “t”. The head of the hammer does not form a straight line, but curves down into the claw of the hammer.
Use of Claw Hammer
Generally, a claw hammer is associated with woodworking, but is not limited to use with wood products. The claw hammer can not only hammer a nail into wood, it is also useful for levering out old nails and lifting floorboards.
Use of Chisels
A chisel is a tool with a characteristically shaped cutting edge of blade on its end, for carving or cutting a hard material such as wood, stone, or metal. The handle and blade of chisels are made of metal or wood with a sharp edge in it. The chisel is forced into the material to cut it. The driving force may be manually applied or applied using a mallet or hammer. Chisels can be used to cut wood, metal or stone.
